sewing machines for beginners

sewing machines for beginners
What is a good sewing machine for beginners?

I'm looking to buy my first sewing machine, and I am a complete novice. Any suggestions on a brand or model? I'm a little overwhelmed with everything that is available, and also not sure where a good place to buy one is in Canada. Thank you! :)

http://www.cet.com/ ~ pennys / faq / smfaq.htm What I want for beginners in sewing: - a machine that does not scary - a machine that is not averse (cheap new machines are often very reluctant or need adjustments often and are - too frustrating to learn!) - very good straight stitch rarely repairable - good zigzag (4-5 mm is fine, more than that is gravy) - a method of making buttonholes that makes sense to you - adjustable presser foot pressure (Which helps some management issues of the fabric) - Accessories pedals that do not cost an arm and a leg (machines that use a short shank foot "typically generic pedals manage quite well. Some brands of machines use very expensive presser feet or owners) If the budget stretches far enough: - hem and hem Stretching points - triple zigzag (nice for elastic applications) - a couple of decorative stitches (do not use as much as you think) - electronic machine because the needle position control and because the stepper motors give you full "punching force" at low sewing speed - mechanical machines often stops at low speed. Please go to the best sewing machine dealers and ask them to show you some machines in your price range, * especially * Used machines you can afford. You'll get a much better machine buying used than new, and a good dealer is worth its weight in sewing machine needles when you get a machine problem - often you can talk through the problem over the phone. While you are trying things, try a couple of machines (sewing, sewing embroidery combo-not) over your price limit, just so you can see what the difference in point of quality and ease of use can be. You may find you want to go for the used Cadillac. Or you may want the new basic Chevy. Might as well try both out. Recommended reading: John Giordano's Machine Book Sewing (especially for used machines), Carol Ahles' Fine Machine Sewing (especially the first and last few chapters) and Grigg Hazen Gale Owner's Guide to sewing machines, knitting machines and Sergers. All these may be available at the public library. Brands that had used particularly look for: Elna, Bernina, Viking / Husqvarna, Pfaff, Singer (pre 1970), Juki, Toyota New "mark" covenant I will probably pick: Janome (who also Kenmore is).

sewing machines qvc

Is this a good sewing machine?

I am interested in a Janome Memory Craft 2400 sewing machine. It's $ 250. Does anyone known about this machine? I can not find any other information about it online, it used to be featured on QVC (for about $ 500).

Do a search for the machine on the patternreview.com - seems to have been a "special" machine made just for QVC, and in smaller roles the MC3000 discontinued. All MemoryCraft series seems to have been discontinued now, what I'm seeing online. could be reviewed for comparable machines at Sears (Kenmore Janome many disguise) and places like allbrands.com to see what is comparable to new machines and what prices might be. I wonder the repair of the provision parts for the machine you are looking at ...
